About JTEC

JTEC is a private non-profit corporation that administers both federal and state workforce development grants. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Labor and the Massachusetts Department of Career Services. These grants serve Barnstable, Duke’s and Nantucket Counties. The services provided by these grants are accessible to job seekers, youth and employers through MassHire Cape and Islands Career Center operated by JTEC.

JTEC’s employment and training programs serve out-of-school youth, people who have serious barriers to employment, are low income, and/or have lost their jobs and are receiving Unemployment Insurance. JTEC has been the lead agency of the Cape Cod career center since its inception in 1999.

jtec img 04In 1999, under the guidance of the Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board, JTEC, the Department of Career Services, Department of Unemployment Assistance, Department of Transitional Assistance and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission established a partnership to provide labor exchange and related services to job seekers, youth and employers.  This collaboration was named Career Opportunities, which became part of the Commonwealth’s one-stop career center system developed to provide an efficient delivery of services to job seeker, youth and employer customers.

In 2018 the Massachusetts Department of Career Services established the MassHire brand to  market their federal and state funded career centers and the services they provide to job seekers and employers throughout the state.

In addition to managing MassHire Cape and Islands Career Center, JTEC is also the fiscal and operational manager of its affiliate Community Action Committee of Cape Cod & Islands (CACCI).  CACCI shares the 372 North Street facility with MassHire. This facility serves as the Operations Center for both organizations.

The agencies compliment each other; they serve the same populations, but provide different services.  Both encourage self-reliance. MassHire helps adults and out-of-school youth prepare for their job search and helps them find employment.  If they have limited skills, MassHire offers FREE skills training.  CACCI offers help with day-to-day living, such as childcare vouchers, SNAP benefits, access to health Insurance and more. Both agencies provide these services to eligible individuals at no charge.
