Mission:
To help job seekers prepare for their job search to find the right job and to assist employers in their efforts to find qualified candidates to fill their open jobs.
Demographics Served:
Adult Job Seekers age 18+ who reside in Barnstable, Dukes’ and Nantucket Counties.
Youth – 16-24 who reside in Barnstable, Dukes’ and Nantucket Counties.
Veterans and their Spouses – who reside in Barnstable, Dukes’ and Nantucket Counties.
Priority of Service is provided to Veterans and their spouses.
Businesses Served:
Employers who are in Barnstable, Duke’s or Nantucket Counties.

Once you become a member of MassHire Cape and Islands Career Center you can attend a Career Center Services workshop to learn about the many services available to you.
A variety of free job search workshops that address the many steps in the process of finding the right job.
Access to free Assessment Programs and tools to help job seekers: evaluate their current skills; identify their many talents and abilities; and most important, identify the professions that could bring them the most satisfaction and success.
Free Skills Training for those needing to upgrade their current skills or learn a new skill. **
On the Job Training – Get paid while you learn! For the person who wants to learn a new skill while working on the job. **
Remedial Programs and HiSET Preparation for Adults and Youth** Those who are seeking to gain their HiSET high school equivalency diploma and have assessment test scores below eighth grade level are provided remedial instruction to improve their ability to pass the assessment test and meet minimum requirements for the HiSET program.
Microsoft Instruction and Remediation Program – This computer program serves to provide a refresher to those who may not have utilized their computer skills and helps everyone progress in the latest versions of both WORD and EXCEl up to intermediate level. It is a group classroom, but participants are provided individual over the shoulder assistance with elements they find particularly challenging.

For pregnant and parenting teens ages 14 to 23 ½ who have left school without a high school diploma and do not have a HiSET/GED.

For Do-It-Yourself Job Seekers
The Career Center’s Resource Center provides Free access to computers with resume preparation and cover letter assistance software, and free job search programs. Job seekers can also complete online job applications and receive staff assistance when needed. The Center also provides paper and a printer for printing out resumes and cover letters, along with access to a fax machine for applying for jobs.
Job Search Preparation Workshops
Each workshop focuses on one facet of preparing for a job search. Resumes that Work, Dynamic Cover Letters, Developing your Job Search Strategy, How to Ace Your Interview are examples of the skills we help a job seeker develop to assure their success in finding the right job. All Workshops are offered free of charge to career center members. Check out the MassHire Event calendar to see what is being offered this month. Registration is required.

Free use of SHL Assessment – a web-based assessment program that provides over 1,200 validated tests for clerical, software, call center, legal, financial, healthcare, industrial and technical job classifications. This platform is to help employers and recruiters determine if candidates have the required skills for a specific job.
Free access to Burning Glass Labor Insight Technologies which provides real-time job market data to give HR managers the insight to succeed. This powerful staffing intelligence provides data on hard- to- fill jobs, talent gaps, competitors, salary and more.
Downsizing? – The MassHire Rapid Response Team provides early intervention re-employment services to companies and their employees affected by layoffs and closing. MassHire Rapid Response layoff management and outplacement service can reduce the cost of layoffs and help employees.
Employee Readiness Services
For a nominal fee, employers have the option of sending an employee for training in any of the following programs:
Basic Skill Remediation
- Hi-SET High School Equivalency

Customized Training Programs
MassHire and local educational facilities are ready to help you develop a customized training program for eligible workers. This program can be used to train prospective employees in the specifics of your industry.
Microsoft Instruction and Remediation Program
An 8-week program focusing primarily on MICROSOFT WINDOWS, WORD, EXCEL and basic typing skills. An overview of Outlook and instruction in the basics of PowerPoint are included, along with the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Deluxe Version 16 Typing Program that students can use to improve speed and accuracy. It is designed to teach participants the computer skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
